Be ATM alert

DOUGLASDALE- The Douglasdale Police and Community Police Forum have some tips for the public on how to be safe while withdrawing money from an ATM.

  •  Park close to the ATM that you are going to withdraw money from.
  •  Avoid drawing money at street ATMs at night.
  •  Be aware of movement and people in the area.
  •  Don’t accept help from strangers, rather ask bank personnel.
  •  Never enter your pin before being asked to do so.
  •  When keying in your pin try to cover the keypad with your hand.
  •  Put your cash away before leaving the ATM.
  •  Do not swipe your card through any device before inserting your card into the machine.
  •  Make sure you have your own card when leaving the ATM.
  •  Be aware of objects stuck to the ATM, especially where the card must be inserted.
  •  Be alert when asked by someone to help them with ATM access or for a lift from the ATM.
  •  Be aware of scams by people who pretend to have found money and are willing to share their find.
