Casspir a reminder that cops mean business

MAGALIESSIG- Motorists and residents should not be alarmed if they see a Casspir vehicle on the corner of Leslie and Witkoppen roads in Magaliesig.

The Casspir is a reminder to residents to attend the Douglasdale police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) awareness day on 1 March.

The armoured police vehicle has a notorious history in South Africa and the word Casspir is a hybrid of South African Police (SAP) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

While the vehicle is not usually used in the Fourways area it’s supposed to serve as a re-assuring police presence to residents, despite it’s apartheid-era connotations.

The Douglasdale police and CPF awareness day will be held on the corner of Leslie and Witkoppen roads in Magaliessig from 9am to 2pm.
