Fourways High shows its appreciation of FreeMe

FOURWAYS- Fourways High School collected and handed over a number of essential items to wildlife rehabilitation centre, FreeMe.

For its Valentine’s Day celebrations the school decided to give back to the community and renamed the day Appreciation Day.

All pupils were asked to bring essential items to donate to a needy cause. While the rest of the school decided to focus on disadvantaged members of the community and donated items to the Daily Bread organisation which provides feeding schemes, the Grade 8 class decided to focus on animals in need.

The Grade 8 pupils and their teachers came across FreeMe’s wish-list on the centre’s website and started collecting items which included cleaning detergents and animal food.

The pupils packed FreeMe’s new rescue van to the brim with the items and in return were each given the latest copy of FreeMe’s magazine. The magazine contains interesting information about the centre’s rehabilitation cases, releases and South African wildlife in general.

Adele Vincent of FreeMe was extremely happy with the generous donation and encouraged more pupils to get involved with the organisation. “I’d love for school pupils, especially Grade 11 and 12 pupils, to consider doing their community service by helping FreeMe,” she said.

The wildlife organisation often needs young volunteers to help spread the word about its efforts by handing out flyers and collecting donations.
