Animal shelter needs help
FOURWAYS - In spite of difficult access to FourPaws animal shelter after the heavy rains damaged their road, the organisation has just rescued two kittens.
Situated outside Diepsloot, the shelter is appealing to the community to help them with funding to repair their road so that they can continue with their rescue efforts.
Merinda Brits of the shelter said that two of their volunteers spotted a Siamese-cross kitten hiding under a car in the parking lot at a business park in Randpark Ridge. FourPaws took the kitten into their care and quickly discovered that she had a large open wound on the side of her abdomen.
The kitten was taken to the shelter’s veterinarian who found that the wound had been there for some time and as a result was badly infected. Fortunately the kitten is now doing well but is in desperate need of a loving home.
The shelter also has a rescue case which found them. The grey kitten must have known what it was doing when he turned up at the shelter one morning. “We have no idea where he came from,” Brits said. “He was so scared and bewildered that we could not catch him.”
After feeding him outside the cattery section of the shelter for a few days he started relaxing, and finally staff were able to pick him up and take him into the cattery. “He is a very sweet and gentle boy and is also in desperate need of a good home,” Brits said.
FourPaws was hit particularly hard by the heavy rains and storms in Johannesburg last month. “Some of our kennels were under water and our road completely flooded,” Brits said. Fortunately none of the animals at the shelter were harmed in any way but FourPaws is now struggling to afford the repairs to the kennels and the road.
Contact Merinda Brits for more information on how to help the shelter with their repairs or SMS 4PAWS to 38111 to donate R10.
