Madiba forest ripples with good

SUNNINGHILL - Builders Warehouse in Sunninghill in association with the Ripples for Good Foundation gave Sunninghill's Madiba forest a complete makeover.

The forest which is situated on the corner of Nanyuki and Van der Bijl roads contains 67 trees which were planted by Sunninghill Community residents and ratepayers association in memory of Madiba’s legacy. Builders Warehouse staff added benches, brightly coloured flowers and pebbles to the forest.

Maria Botha of the foundation explained that the foundation partnered with Builders Warehouse stores to offer the staff the chance to do something good with the resources they have. “I’ve found that there is an abundance of beauty and love in the world, ” she said. “Everyone wants to do good, but they just don’t know where to start.”

The company’s branches across the country get the chance to nominate schools, community centres and parks in their area which they would like to help. The newly relocated Builders Warehouse in Sunninghill chose to help the Madiba forest because it is an important part of the community and speaks to the legacy of unity and helpfulness that Mandela left behind.

Botha explained that a ‘ripple day’ is a one day project. “We start from early in the morning and finish when the work is finished,” she said. “It’s amazing to see what people can achieve in just one day.”

The most exciting thing about the additions to the forest is the new communal vegetable patch. Botha encouraged the community to visit the garden and make use of the vegetable patch.
