Lunatic sends bikers into spin

LANSERIA - A Fourways mountain biking enthusiast had a shocking experience on a recent outing in the Lanseria area.

The resident who requested anonymity said he and seven other mountain bikers visited the Owl River Venue near Lanseria. The venue’s website boasts “three spectacular courses with over 30km of track running through all kinds of terain (sic)”.

The resident explained that while he was happy to pay to use a facility, there was no one at the gate to take their money so they decided to just ride through.

He said they rode until they came to a fork in the road. The right fork indicated private property so they took the left fork. After a while they realised that the path was littered with faeces. The group rode through although they were disgusted. They then encountered a man brandishing a paintball gun and screaming obscenities at them. “Some complete lunatic fired at least 20 solid balls at us from a high powered paint ball gun,” the resident said. “We tried to ask where to go but got more abuse, yelling and firing.”

By the time they group was able to ride back down the hill, one rider had been hit on the leg and many paint shots had hit their bikes.

Numerous attempts were made to contact the venue for comment. The number displayed on Owl River Venue’s website and Facebook page is a cellphone number which rang straight to voicemail and all attempts to contact the venue via email were undeliverable.
