Starving dog in recovery

FOURWAYS - FourPaws animal shelter rescued a starving dog and now needs the public's help to save him.

The shelter is situated on William Nicol Drive just outside Diepsloot. It assists disadvantaged pet owners with caring for their pets, and also rescues animals that have been abandoned or mistreated.

Merinda Brits of the animal shelter said that recently they received a call from a concerned member of the public about a dog wandering the streets of Erasmia. “Judging by his condition he must have been on the streets for several weeks,” she said.

The dog was taken to FourPaws’ vet and it was discovered that he had terrible hookworm and an abscess on his shoulder. The vet also had to amputate one of the dog’s toes due to neglect of an old injury.

According to Brits the dog is now recovering in foster care and is desperately looking for a good home.

The shelter is also appealing to the public for help with the dog’s numerous medical bills.

To inquire about adopting the dog or to help with his medical bills contact Merinda Brits.
