Girl who cried kidnap and rape arrested

EDENVALE - A girl (15) who was reportedly found in Sunninghill after claiming she was kidnapped and raped, has been arrested for perjury.

According to a report by the Bedfordview and Edenvale News, Edenvale police have confirmed the girl’s arrest this afternoon after it emerged that she had lied to police officers and her guardian.

The girl claimed she was kidnapped on 15 August as she walked from Edenglen to Highway Gardens, and made contact with her grandmother, saying her kidnappers had demanded a substantial ransom. She also claimed that the kidnappers had raped her.

According to police, the girl was found on Saturday morning at a filling station in Sunninghill where officers collected her. Sunninghill Community has refuted this report.

However, the girl’s guardians approached the police with information indicating that she had not been truthful about her experiences. In an interview she confessed to meeting a man on Facebook and spending the weekend with him.

The girl appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court following her arrest for perjury, and is now back in the custody of her guardians.
