Situated in the Zwartkloof area the camp offers fun-filled camp activities and provides its campers with an eco-living experience.
“At Camp Nelu, the hospitality staff went out of their way to ensure that all visitors experienced a memorable stay,” said teacher Shannon Jacobs. “The pupils were hosted and guided by a team of experienced and professional camp counsellors. Their passion for the outdoor environment and their enthusiasm for their work were infectious and campers found them to be, not only knowledgeable, but also gracious hosts.”
The camp programme was jam-packed and included a variety of enjoyable activities. On their arrival, pupils were welcomed by five friendly camp counsellors and placed into respective groups. The groups had to create their own tribal names, chants and flags.
On the first day, the Grade 6 pupils participated in water ecology in the man-made dam, while the Grade 5 pupils experienced low-rope activity in the surrounding open veld.
“The second day of the camp was just as exciting as the first, with a variety of activities such as outdoor cooking, obstacle courses and of course, some deserved relaxation in the sparkling pool,” added Jacobs.
Pupils also enjoyed a 4km hike and interacted with a baby rhinoceros which is being reared at the camp’s rehabilitation centre.
“It was truly a camp to remember and the pupils of Cedarwood will be back next year for more fun and entertainment,” concluded Jacobs.
