Princesses and pirates raise money for cancer

CHARTWELL- Maria Montessori School in Chartwell held their annual charity fun day to raise funds for Children’s Haematology Oncology Clinics (Choc) on 16 October.

The event saw grades 00 to 7 participate in the fund raising.

The theme of the day was Disney and all boys and girls dressed up in their favourite Disney characters. An all-you-can-eat buffet full of sweets, cakes and popcorn was available for a mere R25.

Both parents and pupils got stuck into the buffet. All the proceeds raised on the day went to the organisation. According to Chris Liebenberg, the event coordinator, he hoped to exceed last year’s amount of R6 000.

The Grade 7 and 6 group put on a dance routine, auctioned off a piece of art which they made in art class, as well as held a raffle draw.

The final amount raised will be announced in a special ceremony held in November, where Choc representative Lindy Geraghty will accept the gracious donation.

The morning was filled with yummy cakes and treats and smiles on many princesses and pirates.
