Copper thieves caught red-handed

DOUGLASDALE - Fourways-based security company RSS caught a gang of copper cable thieves red-handed.

According to RSS, they received a call to their control room at 4.49am on 25 October from a resident alarmed by strange noises outside her house on Derby Road, Northriding.

Vehicles were dispatched and they found a group of five white men stripping a Vodacom tower of copper cables and battery packs.

Three of the suspects managed to flee the scene on foot, but two were apprehended by the security company.

The suspects’ vehicle was impounded. According to RSS, the detained suspects revealed they belonged to a gang operating out of Roodepoort. The suspects were handed over to the Douglasdale police and were taken into custody at the station.
