Raid on sex and drug den in Jukskei Park

JUKSKEI PARK -  Three women and three men have been arrested by the Douglasdale police after a raid at an alleged sex and drug den in Jukskei Park.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station, said the arrests were made after an anonymous tip-off alleging that there was illicit activity going on at an apartment in a complex in Jukskei Park. On the morning of 27 November Douglasdale police’s new tactical team raided the suspicious apartment and found a large number of cellphones, which they suspect were traded for drugs, as well as cocaine with a street value of R1 500. They also found a receipt for an advertisement on the Sex Trader website.

The women, two of whom are pregnant, were from the Northern Cape. One of the women, who is only 16 years old, said she was fine with being a prostitute because she was doing it in her home town of Upington anyway, but in Johannesburg she makes R2 000 a day.

Muthan said estate managers, security and body corporates need to start looking out for things like this as it was becoming a trend for drug dealers and sex workers to move into affluent complexes as they know they will get more business there.

Muthan said the raid formed part of the station’s Operation Basadi, an initiative for the 16 days of activism against the abuse of women and children.
