New book to inspire leaders
DAINFERN - Resident and author Norman Moyo has released a book about leadership in Africa, and more essentially defining African leadership.
In the book Rumble in the Jungle, leadership from an African Perspective, Moyo tackles key aspects and problems that plague the continent surrounding leadership. He also believes that Africa has individual and unique problems compared to other nations. Born in 1973 in Zimbabwe, he has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry spanning more than 13 years, and is currently the chief executive officer of Helios Tanzania.
“I have read a lot of leadership books and have applied a lot of [what I have learnt] from some of the most successful companies in the world in my corporate career. Over the years I have been sharing [this knowledge] and practical experiences across the continent to a number of companies and business schools.”
He said the book was a call to action to leaders who have earned their stripes to rise up and take up the leadership calling. “I am convinced that finding the right leaders in communities, societies, companies and countries is the fundamental difference between prosperity and poverty,” he said. “It’s the difference between greatness and mediocrity, and the difference between successful and failed states.”
He added that by making different choices in leadership and putting the right people in the right places, the African continent could achieve its full potential for the next generation.
In 2011 Moyo was nominated for the prestigious GTB Global Top 40 World Telecom Leaders as a result of his work in Nigeria. He holds an honours degree in economics, and a MBA from the London Business School Training.
