Fourways Falcons get ready for junior IPT fixtures

The Fourways Action Sports Arena hosted a fundraiser event for both junior netball and cricket players for their upcoming interprovincial tournaments.

There were various competitions, food stalls, raffle prizes and games for attendees to get involved in on March 11. The aim was to raise funds for the upcoming Little League tournament for teams U12 to U15, junior netball from U16 to U19, and the junior cricket teams.

Co-director of the arena, Samantha de Wit said the junior cricket teams also got involved to raise money for their teams. “The cricket boys said to us that there isn’t much fundraising done for them, especially coming off the senior netball teams’ fundraising event. We said to them that they can join the netball juniors, so they then decided to also do something for their upcoming IPTs,” she said.

“This is our way of giving back to them. Anything they make from the event, as a team they can then decide as a team what they will do with the money. Like will they be helping someone who can’t afford the trip, or will they get special shirts made, it’s up to them.”
The netball teams also have a number of players who are part of the Diepsloot Youth Programme who play at the arena.

De Wit mentioned that a number of players in the programme also took part for the club at the recently concluded Overs and Unders IPT tournament. The event was held at Midstream Action Sports Arena in Centurion. Money raised at their previous fundraiser aided their time at the tournament.

“The players were worried about how they would get to Midstream every single day. Their coach organised transport to pick them up, take them there, wait for them and bring them back. The costs all came from that fundraising event,” she said.

“We made so much from that seniors fundraising event, that not a single player paid for their tour. This is what we want to achieve for the junior players as well.”

The Little League tournament begins at the end of March in Edenvale, and the junior netball IPTs are at the end of April in Edenvale. The cricket is set to take place around in June.
