New mobile security app for Lonehill
LONEHILL – In an effort to strengthen the Lonehill community, a new mobile application named OurHood will soon be launched in order to keep residents informed of activities taking place in the area.
“The free web and mobile [Android and iOS] application is to be launched in the Lonehill and Beverley areas and is labelled as a tool for community communication and integration,” said Sandi Brown, representative for Think Community Initiatives, who developed the application.
“It aims to knit the community tighter and keep everyone informed of happenings within the suburb,” Brown continued.
“Lonehill residents are already very community orientated and this application only seeks to reinforce that strong sense of communal pride which exists in the suburb.”
It is a pre-verified application and only members of the Lonehill or Beverley areas are eligible to sign up.
“It is the digital notice board for the neighbourhood, the place and platform to share information and notices. All users can post on the application,” Brown stated.
Any suspicious behaviour or incidents can be reported or shared with all neighbours who are alerted either by an SMS or e-mail.
Everything you need to know about your “hood” is available on the app:
- What’s on
- Security issues or warnings
- Trade exchanges with neighbours
- Lost and found pets
- Retail and business offers and specials
- Important and emergency numbers.
“Look out for our ‘street’ and ‘thought’ leaders that will be implementing this in the next couple of weeks,” Brown said in conclusion.
“Strengthen your community by being an active part of it.”
