Club of champions toasts to longevity

VORNA VALLEY - Midrand Toastmasters celebrated 20 years of confidence, eloquence and success.

The public speaking club was chartered in 1995 and is nicknamed ‘club of champions’ because of its history of producing stars. Members of the club have gone on to become trainers, facilitators, soccer commentators, TV presenters and entrepreneurs.

At the club’s celebration at the Swiss Club in Vorna Valley, some of their greatest speakers shared their compelling stories of how they became involved in Toastmasters and how the skill of public speaking has improved their lives.

Former district governor for Toastmasters and current member of the Midrand club, Henry Moyo has been involved in mentoring young women from previously disadvantaged backgrounds in Diepsloot and Cosmo City.

The programme is a joint collaboration between Toastmasters and the Bear Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the empowerment of young women in Diepsloot and Cosmo City. By teaching the young women the skill of public speaking, Toastmasters and the Bear Foundation have transformed them from caterpillars into butterflies.

At the event, the girls explained how the programme has taught them leadership skills and has improved their confidence. They said the programme also allowed them to dream big and work hard for what they believe they deserve.

Midrand Toastmasters meets at the Summerfield complex, next to Midrand High School, every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7pm.
