Celebrating motherhood
FOURWAYS – In honour of all things maternal, Fourways Mall held a special evening for a few of their loyal shoppers and their daughters to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, beauty products and a surprise talk by a guest speaker.
Held at the Beauty Factory located at the mall on 7 May, ladies were treated like royalty from start to finish.
Speaking at the event was author and new Craigavon resident, Gerard Khatib, who also signed copies of his book Lost Imaginations, which is also set to become a motion picture soon.
Khatib is originally from Lebanon where he grew up watching the harsh disparities between men and women, and how women were often mistreated by the men they married.
“I wrote this book after being raised by my aunt,” Khatib said. “I remember how she was subjected to all kinds of verbal abuse by my uncle and I saw how that broke her spirit.”
The book combines poetry and storytelling, and is divided into six parts, one of which are open pages for the reader to write his or her own thoughts and feelings regarding whatever turmoil they are facing. This serves as a memoir which allows them to reflect back on the obstacles they have overcome and a reminder to never allow themselves to be mistreated again.
“In this way, it is no longer only the writer’s work, but it is the booklover’s piece of art too,” he explained.
Spokesperson for Fourways Mall, Zenet Mathiga, also paid a moving tribute to mothers everywhere. “We are here to celebrate you,” she said, referring to all the mothers present. “You are the pillars of our community, the shoulders on which we stand and you are the reason we are all alive today.
“To all mothers, we say thank you,” Mathiga concluded.
