John Doe just wants to go back home
FOURWAYS – Staff at Fourways Vet Hospital have to deal with many unfortunate animal cases on a regular basis.
Such a case has gripped hearts across social media platforms after a plea to find the owner of an injured cat went viral in Joburg north.
The blue-eyed, neutered Siamese-cross cat, which has been aptly named John Doe, was found at the Balfour Park Shopping Centre in the Highlands North area and taken to Fourways Vet Hospital by a Samaritan on 5 July.

It appeared to have been hit by a vehicle and had a severely fractured jaw.
“The post has been shared more than a thousand times on Facebook,” said spokesperson for the hospital, Amanda Pybus.
“But no one has come forward to claim him.”
Pybus stated that apart from his injuries, the cat seemed to have been well looked after. “I can’t believe that anyone would dump him, he’s a beautiful cat who looks like he came from a loving home. I’m sure someone must be looking for him.”
John Doe’s jaw has since been repaired and he is making a successful recovery.
“If his owners don’t come forward, we will have to re-home him,” continued Pybus. “But it’s cases like these that force us to once again reiterate to the public the importance of micro-chipping your pets. If John Doe was chipped, we could have located his owners a lot sooner.”
