Scouts support Spruit Day 2015

JOBURG - As various Johannesburg North residents and organisations prepare for this year’s Spruit Day 2015 clean-up along the Braamfontein Spruit on 19 September, a number of Scout groups have also expressed their support for the initiative.

Spruit Day organiser Ian Tumiel confirmed that a number of Scout groups, including the first Bryanston Scouts Group and the first Morningside Scouts Group, will lend some helping hands on the big day.

Tumiel added, “We are delighted to have the added support of so many of our young people. Appreciation and awareness of environmental issues are so important and we sincerely thank them in advance for their enthusiasm and concern.”

Spokesperson for the initiative, Nicola Honey said, “These Scout groups will each join one of the community clean-up locations close to their base camps. They will participate in planting trees and installing dustbins, and in Bryanston East, the Scouts will do water testing on the river together with Green Beings.

“They will also be selling boerewors rolls to the volunteers taking part.”

The Spruit Day 2015 initiative is driven by 20 local residents’ associations stretching from Emmarentia to Kyalami and the Jukskei, with the support of various Spruit interest groups and partners including the City of Johannesburg, Pikitup and ADT Security.
