Douglasdale Knitwits touch their community
DOUGLASDALE – From blankets to teddy bears, the Douglasdale Knitwits, a social knitting group, will knit anything to raise funds for charity.
The group, which formed shortly after The Douglasdale Retirement Village was opened, comprises around 20 residents who get together every Tuesday.
The group is currently working in conjunction with Wimpy Douglasdale to knit soft toys for the Wimpy Project which will culminate in Wimpy Douglasdale handing out these toys over Christmas to children in hospitals.
The Knitwits are also working on raising funds to make Christmas hampers for 50 pensioners who live in Brixton.
Laurie McCulloch, one of the members of the group said, “The hampers will assist more than 50 pensioners who survive in dire circumstances, having only government pensions as a form of income.”
McCulloch added that the group also supported the St Laurence Children’s Haven, a home for abused, neglected and abandoned children.
