The Mowana Spa partners with CHOC
FOURWAYS – The Mowana Spa donated R34 200 to the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC) on Thursday, 5 November.
Founded in 1979 as a support group to parents of children with cancer, by parents of children with cancer, CHOC aims to ease the burden on parents facing the same journey by providing access to relevant, accurate information, as well as emotional and practical support.
Sadie Cutland, one of the many founders, attributed the success of CHOC to great partnerships, “Since the beginning, it has always been about nurturing relationships,” she said.
Sophie Ndhlovu, events, fundraising and relationship co-ordinator for CHOC, explained that the relationship with the Mowana Spa was a new one. “Mowana Spa was looking for ideas to sponsor charities that were close to their heart. At the same time, I was looking through their website and noticed a few cancer charities, but CHOC was not on their list.”
This prompted Ndlovhu to give the spa a call, and the relationship was established. The spa has since put together a number of packages to raise funds for the organisation.
Cutland added, “Every cent is so important.”
Ndlovhu explained that the donation would be used for running costs such as transport and providing balanced meals for children and parents staying at the CHOC house.
