Car dealer turns truck into sleigh
DAINFERN - Shelagh Root, an employee of motor vehicle dealer Kia and Hyundai Cedar Road Fourways, had a novel idea of turning a truck owned by the company into a 'sleigh' as she and her colleagues decided to get into the Christmas spirit.
Root and her colleagues delivered presents using the sleigh to pupils of Junior College Fourways Gardens and to children of Dainfern Golf and Country Estate at the school’s and estate’s respective carols by candlelight evenings.
Root explained that idea of the sleigh sprouted when a resident of the estate mentioned that she was tired of Santa arriving on a golf cart. “I realised that we do not have any cabriolet vehicles where Santa can sit on the boot and wave, so I had a brainwave to try my hand at doing a sleigh as a float,” said Root.
“It started as an idea that I sketched on paper and then got the workshop guys involved, as well as their advice on how easy or difficult it would be to build it. Once I got my dealer principals to buy in, it was easy from there.”
She added that the parents at Dainfern Golf Estate supplied the presents for their children which were delivered on the sleigh. “It was wonderful to see the smiles on their faces as Santa gave them presents. The truck we turned into a sleigh was well received on the road as people were hooting and taking photos, and since then I have received a request from four other people asking if we can attend their functions, parties and school events.”
