Douglasdale and Metro police arrest lawbreakers

DOUGLASDALE – Operations were held on the morning of 15 March by the Douglasdale police and Metro police, as they arrested taxi drivers and issued fines to motorists who broke road rules.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, because bad driving by taxi drivers is a serious issue in the Fourways area, the operation was in place to counter this. He further said that motorists who were caught using their cellphones while driving were pulled over and given fines.

“Metro police impounded 10 taxis as they were not roadworthy, and arrested taxi drivers who committed traffic offences. Motorists who fail to abide by the road rules will feel the full might of the police,” Muthan expressed.

“High traffic is set to continue due to the upgrade of the R511 on William Nicol Drive and we urge all motorists to practice patience and tolerance during peak-hour traffic.”

Muthan said these operations will be ongoing.
