The Ethiopian community is mourning in Diepsloot after thugs shot dead one of their own last night in a suspected armed robbery.
The shop owner in Extension 12 died last night when trigger-happy robbers allegedly invaded his business.
Neighbouring residents told Fourways Review that they heard screams for help from the distraught man before gunshots disturbed the night.
“Some residents came out of their homes to check, only to find the shop owner dead, lying in a pool of his blood,” said a neighbour who declined to be identified.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained, as his shop remained closed on 28 April, and none of the operators of nearby shops were prepared to shed light on the fatal shooting.
Diepsloot police spokesperson Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela confirmed the incident but did not disclose the name of the victim. “We can confirm that we have started with preliminary investigations over a case of murder. Thus far, we haven’t found any information that suggests that there was a desire or intention to rob from the business which the deceased was operating,” said Mavimbela. He added that the investigation was ongoing.
