Domestic Watch comes to Fourways

FOURWAYS – Penny Steyn’s Mad campaign tackles TB and crime this May.

Scheduled to take place on 18 May in Paulshof and 19 May in Magaliessig and Norscot, Penny Steyn’s Making a Difference (Mad) May lesson will be focused on current crime trends and the disease, tuberculosis (TB).

Steyn hosts monthly classes teaching domestic workers about crime.

She said, “This will enable [attendees] to share crime facts with employers and assist in making them more alert, astute and aware.”

Steyn added that with the onset of winter, special attention would also be given to TB. “Only once a year, Mad covers a health crime topic so, after much research and invaluable input from ER24, tuberculosis will be covered for the first time.”

South Africa ranks among the 22 high-burden countries that collectively contribute to about 80 percent of the total global burden of all TB cases.

Steyn debunked the myth that TB was only contracted by persons with HIV. “TB is considered by many to be only an HIV product. Nope. Anyone can get TB and be unaware they have it.” For this reason, it was vital that people knew about the disease to prevent spreading it, according to Steyn.

The lesson will take place at 9.30am at the Norscot Manor Recreation Centre for Norscot and Magaliessig residents and at 1.30pm at the Sandton Police Station for Paulshof residents.
