Pedestrian’s cellphone stolen

SUNNINGHILL – Community urged to be vigilant when walking in public and using cellphones.

Linda Gildenhuys of Sunninghill Community Security has urged residents in the community to be wary of using their cellphones when walking in the street or waiting for public transport.

This comes after a woman was robbed of her cellphone. “A Sunninghill resident was walking when she was approached by a man riding a bike. The man [allegedly] pointed a gun at her, requesting her phone and rode off,” Gildenhuys said.

“Although this is the first incident to be reported in the area, common robberies are quite high.”

She explained that the incident took place on 28 May. A case has been opened at the Sandton Police Station.

Details: Sandton Police Station 011 722 4200.
