Baby born at Diepsloot Fire Station

DIEPSLOOT – Diepsloot Fire Station crew members received a big surprise in the form of a newborn baby last night.

Diepsloot Fire Station crew members gave medical support to a lifeless newborn when a woman gave birth at the station on 1 August.

The woman, believed to be aged 30, gave birth in the evening to a baby boy at the fire station situated on Ingonyama Street.

However, once the baby was delivered, he showed no clinical signs of life.

Crew members began CPR on the child before ER24 Joburg North paramedics arrived on the scene to begin advanced life support treatment on the baby.

Once the baby was stabilised on the scene, he was transferred to an appropriate medical facility for further specialised care.

“Diepsloot fire crew members performed incredibly well, playing an essential role in the patient care and management,” said ER24 Joburg paramedic, Anthony Lledo.

“I am really pleased by the way ER24, Life Healthcare paramedics and the fire station crew worked together, focused on the patient and [on] doing what was best for the newborn baby.”
