Sunninghill community stood its ground on Friday 7 April in an attempt to raise their voice for their country

After the country was shocked by Jacob Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle, communities across the country decided to stand up against the corruption that is currently a huge talking point in South Africa.

Sunninghill was one such community that decided to take time off to take a stand for what they believe in. On 7 April residents stood along the fence of Sunninghill Kilindini Park holding banners. The community showed up at around 7am with their partners, children and pets to protest in unity. One resident, who decided to remain anonymous, said that she worries for the future of her child when she hears and sees all the corruption going on. “I want to run, but I also still love my country.”

Later that day they moved their protest to the side of Nanyuki Road in an attempt to be more visible to those driving toward Sandton. The protestors received a lot of reaction from the cars that drove past and some even pulled over and joined in the cause. The residents were full of positive spirit and confidence as they continued with their chant, “Zuma must fall, better country for all.” After about four hours of protesting and hooting cars, some of the residents decided to join the larger protest action on Witkoppen Road.
