Angela Barnard has been chosen as the new principal of Summit College’s high school, a position that she says is her dream job.
“When the opportunity came to me, I just had to come work at Summit,” Barnard said. “It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to become the principal of my own school,” she beamed.
Barnard has worked in the field of education for about 30 years. She started as a primary school teacher at the Hennops River Primary School in Erasmia, where she taught for 18 years.
“Then in 2005, I moved to Pecanwood School. At first, I was a Grade 7 teacher before I was eventually given the position of deputy principal, which I did for five or six years.”
Since beginning her new role at Summit College’s high school in April this year, Barnard said she has focused her attention on two specific goals: getting the school’s parents to become more involved in sport at the school, and also encouraging the children to participate more.
“The role of principal, although quite challenging, is just so fulfilling.
“I’d say my longterm goal in this position is to make sure that the children who pass through these doors are truly prepared for life. As adults, I want these kids to be leaders in their communities, and also know that they can make it internationally.”
