Sandton police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects after they allegedly robbed 36 Dutch tourists who were in a tour bus travelling to their lodge from OR Tambo Airport.
Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station confirmed the incident.
Naidoo said the tourists were in a tour bus when they were ordered to stop by a man wearing a police uniform.
“Together with another group of men dressed in civilian clothing they robbed the tourists of their personal belongings,” said Naidoo.
“There were no injuries reported and no arrests have been effected.”
A Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that the tourists were going to tour the country.
The report stated that the majority of the tourists are 70 years old and that the robbery took about 20 minutes.
De Telegraaf further stated that the robbers were armed and threatened the passengers.
