Morningside Rotary Club held a three-day health campaign at the Methodist Church Hall in Diepsloot.
Residents benefited from free health checks, said the club’s Kristi Hansen, and had access to various health checks which included vitals signs, blood pressure tests, HIV, cholesterol, diabetes testing and more.
She added, “The club creates a platform for stakeholders to come and offer health services to the community for free. “Other organisations that participated are South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag), Sunninghill Hospital and Witkoppen Clinic.”
Hansen said dentistry and gynaecology mobile clinics were at the venue so residents of Diesploot could access those services.
“This campaign helps relieve pressure from two clinics, OR Tambo and Diepsloot South clinics servicing the area. We also refer cases to the clinics after doing vital signs checks.”

Sister Nono Maseko of Sadag raised awareness on depression, a leading cause of suicide. She said, “As we approach the festive season period many people will fall into depression due to financial strains and expectations from loved ones. Learn to spend wisely to avoid financial stress in the coming year.”
Metro police officer Ayanda Mbewu shared road safety tips with residents and Oasis, a non-governmental organisation was also present to give out information on prostitution and HIV/Aids. The organisation’s Loveness Charumbira said Oasis offered HIV testing and STI screening to commercial sex workers in Diepsloot and Midrand.
