Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary School recently embarked on their Happy Feet Project which aimed to collect 274 pairs of new school shoes for next year’s registered Grade 1s and 2s of Riversands Primary School.
Thanks to parents, the school was able to reach their target.
The school previously assisted Riversands Primary School with prefab classroom donations, jungle gym donations, as well as secondhand school furniture.
According to one of the parents of Crawford Lonehill Pre-primary, Terisa Hsu, on 24 August the school visited Riversands Primary. “This was when the deputy principal of Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary, Jacqui Smallbone noticed how most of the children were wearing shoes that were in terrible condition,” Hsu said.
She added that instead of their annual traditional Christmas toy drive, the school with the assistance of parents decided to do a four-week school shoe collection. “The aim of the initiative was not only to raise school shoes for the less fortunate, but also to teach children the importance of looking after their personal belongings, and giving back to the community.”
On 6 December, parents volunteered and spent their morning wrapping, personalising and labelling each pair of shoes.
The school plans to deliver the school shoes to Riversands Primary on 22 January next year.
