According to Craigavon resident, Stuart Spencer, the sewer pipe burst on 29 January.
“Joburg Water came to the scene of the pipe leak on Tuesday and Wednesday and they tried to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, the pipe was too big for them to fix and they haven’t come back since,” Spencer said.
He said the sewer pipe was spilling out raw sewage over the lawns in the area. “Due to the smell left by the sewer pipe, we needed to keep our windows and doors closed. Fellow residents are also complaining about headaches due to the smell left by the pipe.”
“Joburg Water needs to come sort the situation out promptly as it may [create] a health risk.”
Isaac Dhludhlu of Joburg Water said, “Due to no reference number, we could not track down why our employees couldn’t finish the job as they went to the burst sewer pipe on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“It becomes problematic when we do not know who did the job, however, Joburg Water will investigate the matter as to why the job was not finished by our employees. We assure the residents that we will attend to the matter promptly.”
