11 957 blankets keep off the winter chill

FOURWAYS – Over 11 000 blankets have been collected this year for the annual Rotary blanket drive. There's still time for you to make a contribution.

The blanket drive launched by Rotary in May has seen 11 957 blankets donated to the needy so far.

The drive, which is in its ninth year now, sees the organisation ask for donations from the public which are then used to buy blankets at wholesale price, according to Steven Margo of the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club. Rotary has an arrangement with blanket manufacturers Sesli Textiles to buy the blankets for only R70 each as part of the initiative.

“This year’s drive has been very good considering that money is tight,” Margo told Fourways Review.

He added that the distribution of the blankets happens as soon as the clubs receive the items, meaning that there is no delay in the needy receiving a blanket to keep them warm.

Members of the public are still welcome to contribute to the initiative.

“We will continue it for as long as the demand is there.”

To make your donation, you need to make a deposit to a specially allocated bank account and use your local club as a reference on your deposit so that the blankets can be correctly distributed.

You are then asked to email proof of payment to Brenda McCallum brenda@albaco.co.za and jackiedk@csimanagement.co.za with the full name of your club, email address, contact number and the name of the person your club has authorised to collect the blankets from the manufacturers.

The relevant banking details are as follows:

Standard Bank Fourways Crossing

Account number: 042407974

Branch code: 009953
