Kyalami Preparatory School Grade 7s hosted an Entrepreneurs Day which was enjoyed by learners and teachers.
Speaking on behalf of the school, teacher Sharlene Wright said the day was a school tradition and was an annual event undertaken by the Grade 7s.
She added that the children enjoyed making business cards, posters, jingles, flyers and a PowerPoint presentation to market their businesses.
“They sold a variety of products, one of which had to be handmade by themselves. The level of creativity was a delight to see. Other activities included The Hamster Ball, Sumo wrestling and the Rocket Ride. A big hit was all the delicious food.”
Wright said the children applied a number of entrepreneurial skills including critical thinking, resilience, grit and collaboration. “I am confident those qualities will hold them in good stead for the future in an ever-changing world. It was wonderful to observe their innovative ideas and that they were prepared to take risks.
“The proceeds of this event will go towards a leavers’ gift for the school in memory of these Grade 7s.”
Wright added that the day prepared the children for the job market in the future and taught them important problem-solving skills which were essential for entrepreneurs.
She added, “Next year we will be working in conjunction with a company called Future Proof which will give our children more knowledge and skills about entrepreneurship.
“Overall a wonderful experience and a learning curve for all. Thank you to Jonathan Morgan for coordinating a successful event.”
