Minister dismisses ‘Diepsloot Shutdown’ reports

DIEPSLOOT – Minister of Police General Bheki Cele says another 88 police members from various units will be deployed in Diepsloot.

The Minister of Police General Bheki Cele and Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi have urged the Diepsloot community to let the law take its course and to dismiss a recent report regarding the ‘Diepsloot Shutdown‘.

The said report called for the mobilisation of the Diepsloot community claiming that the ministers ‘lied about the deployment of police members’. The ministers visited Diepsloot last week and promised extra deployment of police officers in that area.

“The contents of that report in its entirety are malicious, misleading and irresponsible to say the least,” the ministers said in a joint statement.

According to the ministers, since their visit, the area enjoys the additional deployment of several members from various units including members from the Tactical Response Team (TRT), the Public Order Police Unit, K9 Unit as well as several members from Visible Policing. From today, 27 January, another 88 members are going to be deployed in the Diepsloot area.

“The report that is circulating must be dismissed with the contempt it deserves,” said General Cele. “I want to urge the community of Diepsloot to not allow themselves to be influenced by such malice but rather to allow the police to do its work.”
