Councillors engage with Fourways community members

LONEHILL – The Lonehill Residents Association played hosts to ward councillors Candice James and David Foley to give updates on issues in the Lonehill community.

The Lonehill Residents Association hosted a meeting for community members to share their concerns about issues in their area with local ward councillors. Hosted on 19 February at the Crawford College Lonehill auditorium, residents had the opportunity to find out about different issues currently affecting them. Ward 93 councillor Candice James and Ward 94 councillor David Foley sat in front of the almost-full room as the general manager of the association Keith Rampton welcomed all those who attended.

Ran in the style of a question-and-answer discussion, community members asked James and Foley about the progress on issues which had been previously raised. The service delivery problems ranged from Pikitup not collecting refuse from outside bins in the past two months and requests to install speed bumps on Turley Road and Lewis Avenue. One attendee, Ashleigh Waterson spoke about dumping in her area of Clayoven and asked James about the progress on the issue.

While the meeting was mostly for attendees to get updates on issues in their community, different ways of reporting problems in the area were also discussed. Foley and James provided information on website links for City Power in the event of faulty traffic lights and also ways in which one could find out who their ward councillors were.

“You go onto the DA website, find the tab labelled ‘our people’, and the tab called ‘councillors’. You type in your residential address and it will show you who your ward councillor is, how to contact them as well as the ward number,” Foley explained.

The session ended with a word of thanks from Rampton and applause from those who attended. Immediately afterwards, many residents approached the councillors to discuss more issues which showed the job of a ward councillor was never finished with their ever continuous work of improving the community.
