Police’s efforts to remove the presence of drugs in the community has led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in Petervale on 23 February, according to Sandton Police Station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer.
On the day, members of the Crime Prevention Unit were conducting crime prevention duties in the area when they spotted a suspicious-looking man and approached him.
Upon searching him, the members discovered 23 bank coin bags of marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash. Although the constitutional court ruled in 2018 that the growth and use of marijuana in a private residence is legal, it is still against the law to buy or sell the substance.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs and appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 24 February.
