Much-anticipated Co-Ed Hockey Festival put on hold

BEAULIEU – The Co-Ed Hockey Festival aims to bring out the best in the hockey talent of school players from around the country.

The much-awaited fifth annual Co-Ed Hockey Festival which is hosted at Beaulieu College has been postponed.

The event was scheduled to take place from 8 to 10 May but the tournament has been put on hold to comply with lockdown regulations imposed by President Cyril Ramaphosa. However, Southern Gauteng Hockey Association president and coach at Beaulieu, Allistar Fredericks is positive the festival will still take place.

Fredericks said the festival was due to take place before the province’s biggest boys’ hockey event, the Aitken tournament, to prepare players for the tournament.

The first fixture list of the festival had been drafted and includes first hockey teams of Hoërskool Menlopark, Hoërskool Montana, Redhill, Dainfern College, Christian Brothers College, Bulawayo, and Beaulieu College. There are two pools of boys’ teams, and one girls’ team pool.

Fredericks concluded, “The teams entering are very competitive and we [Beaulieu] pride ourselves when taking part in any event. We are hoping that our teams will make a final based on their performance.”
