Here’s an easy way you can assist animal shelters

FOURWAYS – Paying it forward does not need to cost an arm and a leg. Here are a few small ways you can support a good causes in your area.

Does it ever feel like you’d like to do more to help others but don’t have enough funds to make a real difference?

Doing good for those in need doesn’t always have to cost a lot of money. Here are a few local organisations that you can support one way or another without breaking the bank, as you can support them for under R50.

4Paws – R20

The 4Paws Animal Shelter is located in the Riversands area and cares for nearly 300 cats and dogs rescued from around the province, providing veterinary care, love and a safe home to them until they can be adopted. You can support this important work with a single SMS – if you send the word ‘paw’ to 40707 at a cost of R20, the funds will go straight to the shelter.

South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind – R35

Besides training puppies to one day become seeing eye dogs, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind in Paulshof also has a College of Orientation and Mobility which teaches the visually impaired how to navigate the world independently. If you would like to make a small contribution to this work, you can buy a money template assistive (designed or intended to assist a disabled person) device for R35 from their website that will be donated to someone in need on your behalf. This handy instrument can be carried around in a pocket and help people identify bank notes as well as to sign documents. If you have a little extra cash to give, you can also purchase a liquid level indicator (for R350) or a long cane (R550).

Ark Animal Centre – R10

The Ark Animal Centre in Chartwell specialises in caring for pregnant dogs and puppies but has also helped countless adult dogs in need too. Much like 4Paws, a special SMS line has been set up to help raise funds for the organisation – at a cost of R10, SMS ‘donate food’ to 48748 to donate that amount.
