Meet this mature stallion and support the SA Lipizzaners

KYALAMI – Support the South African Lipizzaner Centre, which is struggling with reduced income as a result of lockdown.

Conversano Arva is a mature stallion with huge experience and a grace and air about him that is regal.

Volunteer at the South African Lipizzaners Gina Boxley said, “For those of you who have attended our classical performances, you have all witnessed Conversano’s fantastic performances of the capriole [now retired], side saddle [Pas De Trois] and Young Stallions. He is one of our very special dark stallions. Another of our ‘lucky’ ones and such a very unique and precious boy he is.”

Current rider Jhan-Mari van den Berg said, “This year, I have been honoured with the incredible task of caring for this special stallion.

“This is not only a super learning opportunity for myself, but he also thoroughly seems to enjoy the slightly more challenging work and who knows, with his enthusiasm and a bit of practise on my side, we could audition for a new item this year, such as riding side-saddle in the Pas De Trois.”

Van den Berg described the 19-year-old stallion saying, “Conversano Arva has also been giving our newest students a few lunge sessions to really help improve their seat and confidence as they tackle this new journey at the South African Lipizzaner Centre.”

Van den Berg said once the students completed their exams and were deemed fit by the team leader, they would progress to the young stallions routine where Conversano Arva will use his years of experience to teach and guide students throughout their routine, while still keeping them on their toes.

“This great stallion allows myself and the students invaluable years of experience with a true master of the arts,” said Van den Berg.

Conversano Arva is proudly sponsored by Lesley Wheeler.

During lockdown, the Lipizzaners have cancelled their weekly performances, resulting in a large drop in funding to feed the stallions.

Members of the public are encouraged to support the South African Lipizzaners, based in Kyalami, in any way they can during lockdown.
