Covid-19: Gauteng overtakes Western Cape with the highest number of cases
A further 100 people died of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 602.
Gauteng has now overtaken the Western Cape as the province with the highest number of cumulative Covid-19 cases.
On 8 July, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said that a total of 224 665 confirmed Covid-19 cases had been recorded.
Gauteng sits with 33.4 per cent of the total number of cases with 75 015 positive cases, while the Western Cape sits at 73 292 and the Eastern Cape sits in third position with 42 357 cases.
A further 100 people have died of the virus, 47 of which were from the Western Cape, 18 from the Eastern Cape, 18 from KwaZulu-Natal, 15 from Mpumalanga and two from Limpopo.
The total number of Covid-19 related deaths thus far is 3 602.
The Western Cape has recorded the most deaths thus far (2 192) followed by the Eastern Cape (582) and Gauteng (478).
A total of 1 944 399 tests have been conducted thus far, 54 per cent of which were in the private sector, while the remainder were in the public sector.
The total number of recoveries is 106 842.
