Blankets and food donated to Diepsloot residents in need
DIEPSLOOT – The Steyn City Foundation, employees and residents donated generously to bring warmth and food to Diepsloot residents on Mandela Day.
The Steyn City Foundation marked Mandela Day by delivering 3 000 food parcels to Diepsloot residents.
Each food parcel contained 10kgs of mealie meal, fresh produce, soup packets and tea. The Real Beverage Company also donated 3 000 bottles of cool drink to the initiative, adding a treat to the pack.
Residents and employees at Steyn City were asked to donate warm clothing and funds to the foundation. The foundation was pleased by the response from residents and employees who heeded the call, donating generously to the cause.
CEO of Steyn City Properties Giuseppe Plumari said, “This Mandela Day marks a bittersweet occasion for us. Ordinarily, we would invite all our employees to participate in a number of community events. This year, however, we are limited by Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
“Nonetheless, we are pleased that we are still able to provide support through our food drop with our proven Covid-19-compliant modus operandi.
“The foundation said that they are determined to take care of their neighbours by making sure that their most urgent needs of food and warmth are taken care of with donations of winter clothing and food.
Plumari said, “Inviting our community to make donations was one way we could give them a chance to participate after all, Mandela Day is a special celebration for all South Africans.
“As usual, our hearts have been warned by the wonderful generosity of our residents and employees and it gave us great joy to be able to distribute all their donated items on their behalf,” concluded Plumari.
