No interruption of water supply during water pipe upgrade in Lonehill
LONEHILL– Joburg Water spokesperson has urged community members to use water sparingly and report water-related problems to the utility.
The City of Johannesburg water utility, Joburg Water has assured residents of Lonehill and surrounding areas that there would be no major water supply interruptions during a five-month long water pipe upgrade project that was currently underway.
Joburg Water spokesperson, Isaac Dhludhlu said the purpose of the project on Denis Road was to link the two distribution water pipes between Bryanston reservoir and Lonehill area to improve water pressure and the capacity of the current water system to meet a growing demand for water in the area.
“The Bryanston Water Upgrade project on Denis Road will run for a duration of approximately five months and there will be no major water supply interruption during the construction period. The water disruption that residents can expect will happen for only one day when we do tie-ins into the existing system,” he added.
Ward 93 councillor Candice James said the pipe upgrade would bring to an end constant water outages in the area. “The area has been experiencing constant water outages because of incapacitated water supply infrastructure. The water pipes that we are changing now were meant to cater for a small farming community,” James explained.
“The community has grown and the old pipes could not cope with the high demand of water supply. The new pipe is much bigger than the old one and it will bring an end to these constant pipe bursts in the area.”
Dhludhlu urged residents and community members to use water sparingly and report incidents of water leaks, burst pipes and other water-related problems to the 24-hour water hotline on 0860 562 874, by sending an SMS to 082 653 2143 or sending an email to customer@jwater.co.za
