Fifteen implicated in Diepsloot man’s murder

DIEPSLOOT – The suspect in question was with 15 men when they assaulted two men, leaving one dead.

A 40-year-old tavern owner was arrested on 25 October for murder, attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm by Diepsloot police.

Spokesperson for Diepsloot Police Station, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the suspect is alleged to have committed these crimes on 18 October at about 3am.

“The deceased, a 33-year-old man, was asleep at his friend’s place in Ext 1, when about 15 men forced opened the door demanding to see the deceased,” he said.

Allegedly, the 15 suspects, including the tavern owner, pulled the deceased and his friend outside and assaulted them with fists and miscellaneous objects. The deceased’s friend was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a knife. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment. “When the police arrived at the scene of the crime, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood. Emergency personnel declared the victim dead on the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.”

The suspect appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on the morning of 27 October, and will reappear on 3 November.
