Economic Development MMC calls on Diepsloot’s residents to keep their neighbourhoods clean

DIEPSLOOT– The MMC for Economic Development said the Kleena Joburg campaign in the area further demonstrated the City's commitment to curb the long-standing environmental issues and hygiene risks in all regions.

The MMC for Economic Development for the City of Johannesburg, Lloyd Phillips has called on residents of Diepsloot to look after the environment and infrastructure.

This, after the MMC, accompanied by officials from various City departments and entities, rolled up their sleeves and embarked on a Kleena Joburg campaign to clean the streets of Ward 95 on 28 October.

The Kleena Joburg campaign was launched by Mayor Geoff Makhubo to build responsible communities and educate citizens about the dangers of littering and its impact on the environment.

Phillips said the campaign further demonstrates the City’s commitment to curb the long-standing environmental issues and hygiene risks in all regions. “Whilst the operation included the unblocking of drainage systems, fixing water leaks, cleaning up illegal dumping sites and [addressing] by-law adherence, emphasises was also on creating awareness amongst the residents about responsible environmental behaviour and hygiene practise. The team was able to identify additional hotspots where intervention is required,” he said.

Phillips urged residents and community members to refrain from littering and use designated areas to get rid of garbage. “It is indeed encouraging when there is a collective venture that heeds the call to improve living conditions and basic services in our communities. We call on all residents in every community to refrain from littering and use designated areas to get rid of waste,” he said.
