Community members and police patrol along Jukskei
DOUGLASDALE – Members of the community and police get down and dirty to make sure all is safe near the Jukskei River.
The Douglasdale Police Station, together with private security companies and the Douglasdale Community Police Forum (CPF), invited members of the community to a parade along the Jukskei River on 7 November.
The station’s Captain Leonard Celliers spoke to a number of Douglasdale residents on what would take place that morning, as well as why it was organised. “The aim is to identify spots where criminal activities come into the area. What criminals do is walk along the river and then go into the complexes which result in house break-ins,” he said.
“Sector 1 has experienced a number of house break-ins and robberies, and we want to identify and report any suspicious activity. It is the first joint operation since March, and we hope to have many more.”
The walk was set to start from Jacaranda Street all along to Jukskei Park near Caltex, totalling almost 12kms.
Most attendees walked while security companies drove to the areas patrolling. Paramedics were also on sight.
The walk and search went on for most of the day, with community and security members searching in and around the river.
Douglasdale Police Station spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said there was one discovery of a cannabis plantation, but everything went well.
