Diepsloot Library is open, but only for study purposes

JOHANNESBURG – The statement added that the use of library books and library computers was not yet permitted in those facilities that opened.

The City of Johannesburg’s Library and Information Services unit has announced the opening of some libraries including Diepsloot Community Library for study purposes from 9 November.

This, after the City closed all libraries across all seven regions in March this year following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After seven months, the City has decided to finally open some of these information facilities for limited services.

According to a statement issued by the City’s Library and Information Services unit, the facilities will open its doors for study purposes and returning books borrowed before the country went into the lockdown.

“After closing for lockdown due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic early this year, the City of Johannesburg public libraries remained closed in line with health and safety protocols.

“However, as from Monday 9 November 2020, the City of Johannesburg will open some libraries to the public for study purposes.”

The statement added, “Members of the public may return library books to all Johannesburg libraries between the hours of 9am to 4pm from Mondays to Fridays. No books may be borrowed from the library.”

The use of library books and library computers is not yet permitted in those facilities that opened.

The only libraries that will be open for study purposes in Region A, include Diepsloot Community Library, Halfway House Library and Ivory Park Library.
