Residents encouraged to support local

MAGALIESSIG– Jolene de la Porte said her business took a big knock due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and she was in the process to resuscitate it.

=The outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic earlier this year has had devastating economic effects for many people across the globe and locally.

With this in mind, the manager of Dalberry Guest House, Justine Louw organised the Magaliessig Community Market on 29 November to assist small businesses.

Local business exhibited their products and services while community members brought their families to enjoy a day filled with entertainment and a variety of food sold at the event to boost the local economy.

Louw said, “We’ve decided to host Magaliessig Community Market here to help local residents showcase their businesses to their neighbours. We’ve realised that after the wave of Covid-19 pandemic, many people lost their jobs and some resorted to starting businesses to make a living and support their families.”

A local resident who runs a spa business at her house, Jolene de la Porte, said her business had taken a big knock due to Covid-19 and she was in the process of resuscitating her business.

“I’ve been in the tourism sector for the past 12 years. My business suffered immensely after the pandemic outbreak and we received no help or relief funds as promised.

” I’m now working from home and sometimes drive to my clients every day to resuscitate my business. This event gave me an opportunity to showcase my business to local residents,” Porte added.

Louw concluded, “We encourage local community members from Magaliessig and other surrounding communities to come join us at the last of this year’s market on 11 December. We will have another jam-packed day for everyone on the day.”
