Candice James sends her festive wishes for 2020
FOURWAYS – Ward 93 councillor Candice James spoke on the year she has had in helping her residents with the coronavirus and service delivery matters.
Ward 93 councillor Candice James shared an emotional message with the community as the year comes to an end.
James said, “It’s exceedingly difficult to be positive in a year like this. When lockdown began, the uncertainty in the voices of residents was obvious. In the first two weeks, I was receiving about 200 messages every 30 minutes.
“My job description as a councillor dealing with service delivery issues changed into helping residents through illness, death, depression and financial crises to name a few.”
She mentioned as the lockdown restrictions reduced, focus went back to issues pertaining to the ward, but staff was heavily affected by Covid-19 which caused substantial backlogs. James thanked residents who ‘continued to report issues and showed patience with the slower than usual turn-around time’.
“We are all in an unprecedented time and we all need a little more love and kindness… Thank you to all our front-line and depot staff for picking up the extra workload while our other members were in quarantine. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who have suffered loss due to the coronavirus.”
James turned her pain during this time, into something to help others with her NPO named I Love PJs. “My hurt that I experienced during this time turned to an NPO, which showed me the beautiful side of the residents from Ward 93 and beyond again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for lifting me out of the darkness.”
She concluded, “Please enjoy the upcoming festive season with the people that mean the most to you. Make memories that last an eternity.”
